The Humber Hawks women’s soccer team spoiled the Redeemer Royals home finale with a decisive 6-0 win in Ancaster on Wednesday night.

Hawks midfielder Jayde Wiklund-Roach scored three times as Humber moved to 5-0 on the season.

Humber forward and reigning Canadian player of the year, Keyla Moreno, scored once but said she was not happy with her performance.

“I didn’t have a good game today,” said Moreno. “But it’s good to have the team step up when I don’t.”

Despite the win the Hawks did not perform at their best with five of the game’s six goals coming in a 30 minute span.

For the other 60 minutes the Hawks dominated possession but were unable to capitalize on their chances.

Co-head coach Mauro Ongaro said the game was something to learn from.

“We had a nice middle part, I thought the last 15 minutes of the first half and the first 20 minutes of the second half I thought we played really well,” said Ongaro.

“Other than that I think it’s a game we’re going to have to look at and get better at certain parts of our game.”

For Redeemer the loss marked a continuation of what has been a disappointing campaign so far.

The loss moved Redeemer’s record to 0-4-2 with only two goals for versus 16 conceded.

Royals head coach Caell Huyer spoke about his team’s play this season.

“It was not what we expected, our season goals were a lot different than we are now,” said Huyer.

“We suffered quite a few injuries early on and got some tough luck. We aren’t where we’d planned to be.”

Brittany Sczerbakow and Nicole Carvalho had the other goals for Humber.

The Hawks finish their season with home games against Niagara and Sheridan followed by a season finale trip to London to take on Fanshawe on Oct. 10.

Redeemer closes their season up with road games at Sheridan and at Niagara.
