NFL Scouting Combine comes to a close

The annual NFL Scouting Combine wraps up today in Indianapolis.

Over 300 prospects worked out at Lucas Oil Stadium, undergoing rigorous physical and psychological tests and interviews with NFL teams. All eyes were eagerly watching top-rated prospects including Jadeveon Clowney, Jake Matthews, Teddy Bridgewater, Sammy Watkins and Khalil Mack.

But as every Combine comes and goes, there are some surprising superstars that emerge from the shadows and make a name for themselves.

Here is a list of the top performers in each drill category during this year’s Combine.

 

40 Yard Dash:

RB Dri Archer – Kent State University

Time: 4.26 seconds

WR Brandin Cookes – Oregon State University

Time: 4.33 seconds

WR John Brown (Pittsburgh State University) and CB Phillip Gaines (Rice University) tied for third place with a time of 4.34.

Note: Archer was two-hundredths of a second short of the record set by Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson in 2008.

 

Bench Press:

C Russell Bodine – University of North Carolina

Reps: 42

(Five players tied for second place with 36 reps)

 

Vertical Jump:

OLB Ryan Shazier – Ohio State University

Inches: 42.0

RB Lache Seastrunk – Baylor University

Inches: 41.5

WR Tevin Reese – Baylor University

Inches: 41.0

 

Broad Jump:

RB Lache Seastrunk – Baylor University

11 ft. 2 in.

Jerick McKinnon (Georgia Southern), Donte Moncrief (Mississippi) and Tevin Reese (Baylor) all tied for second place with an official broad jump distance of 11 ft.

 

Three-Cone Drill:

  WR Damian Copeland – University of Louisville 

Time: 6.53 seconds

  QB Jordan Lynch – Northern Illinois University

Time: 6.55 seconds

  WR Tevin Reese – Baylor University

Time: 6.63 seconds

 

20 Yard Shuttle:

WR Brandin Cooks – Oregon State University 

Time: 3.81 seconds

WR Damian Copeland – University of Louisville

Time: 3.90 seconds

WR Odell Beckham – Louisiana State University

Time: 3.94 seconds

 

60 Yard Shuttle:

The first round of the 2014 NFL Draft will take place on May 8.
