Winter wonderland or snowy nightmare?

More than 80 centimeters of snow have fallen in Halifax since the weekend.

But Halifax didn’t consider this an emergency. In fact, a state of emergency has not been declared in the city since 2004’s White Juan snowstorm that dropped a meter of heavy snow in just one day.

The city has banned street parking to help the snow removal workers to clear the roads. Buses were canceled due to a build up of snow at a transit centre, which made it unsafe to go inside where 60 per cent of Halifax’s fleet is stored. Services were scheduled to resume later today on a reduced basis.

Government offices delayed opening and military bases in Halifax were closed for a day. Canadian Forces Base in Halifax is offering free parking for city residents.
