People are recommended to go paperless and to stop drinking from bottled water.

Many schools take their students on field trips to plant tress for the environment.

Rebecca Henriques’ 9-year-old daughter takes part in that activity while going to elementary school.

“The school takes the students out for an hour to pick up paper or waste from the floors, they also turn off the lights in the classroom for an hour,” says Henriques.

These are some of the lengths and efforts the school board take towards helping the kids be aware of the harm we can cause to our planet.

“I think it’s a great idea because my daughter always comes back and tries her best to be eco friendly at home,” she added.

On the UK’S Telegraph website they list 10 different ways on how to be eco friendly without attending any official events on the actual day.

  1.  Walk to work, cycle or take public transport
  2.  Use a reusable coffee cup
  3.  Make sure you recyle
  4.  Go paperless
  5.  Take a tote bag to the shop
  6.  Plant a tree
  7.  Go meat or dairy free at least once a week
  8.  Carry a reusable water bottle
  9.  Add the Earth Mode Google Chrome extension to your browser to monitor your energy use
  10. Buy local produce

Jennifer Gonzalez says that she pretty much takes part in earth day every single day.

“I recycle and make sure to turn off all of my lights when I’m not in the room,” she says.

Adding “I think it’s important to be aware of how we use our power because everything we do really has a big impact on our Earth and the environment.”

The Telegraph also reported that one billion people around the world celebrate Earth Day and get involved in trying to make our world a better place.
