More than 50 per cent of Torontonians said that the Gardiner Expressway needs to go, a recent Forum poll shows.
Of those people, 27 per cent said it should be replaced with a tunneled roadway, 13 per cent want a surface roadway, and the remaining 12 per cent want parts town down according to the Toronto Star.
Mayor John Tory is in favor of fixing the Gardiner but expressed his concern over recent incidents of debris falling, The Star said.
While many Torontonians want the Gardiner torn down, there are still many things to consider before a final decision is made.
Toronto’s Public Works Committee will release a preliminary report Wednesday outlining the three proposed options at a technical briefing at 2 p.m.
Options being considered include removing the highway altogether, maintaining the highway, or a “hybrid option” that would replace the elevated roadway with a more direct route.
