Actor Adrian Grenier and other successful young people will be guest speakers at a student-organized media conference event at Guelph-Humber University on April 24.

“If students are interested in the media world, this event will give them the depth of media,” said Jerry Chomyn, program head of Media Studies ay GH.

The one-day conference is focused on young people, technology and virtual-based networks.

The event is put on by fourth-year media practices Guelph-Humber students, and with Emerge magazine, a student-produced magazine.

Grenier, star of the television series, Entourage, and others including musician Kate Todd and entrepreneurs Derek Rider and Corey Peck, will speak about the importance of social media and its impact in the world.

Chomyn said it’s vital for students who want to work in the media or similar fields to listen to professionals who use technology and social networks today.

“At the conference, students will hear from people who work in radio, television, and magazines but also in social media, digital media and new types of media,” Chomyn said.

“This is really a gathering of people who been successful in the evolving media world.”

Sarah Jorstad, marketing and promotions co-lead for the event, said there is enthusiasm growing for the conference.

“There is excitement and we’ve started promoting it,” Jorstad said.

“We’ve launched our media platform for it and we’ve opened some promotional booths – we’ll have them up around campus two or three times a week.”
