The Calvacade of Lights celebrates its 50th anniversary on Saturday to kick off a festive season of events in Toronto.

Nathan Phillips Square is expected to be packed with people enjoying the annual tree-lighting, fireworks and various musical performances.

The event starts at 7 p.m. with an audience sing-a-long led by the musical band, Choir! Choir! Choir!

Afterwards, a performance of John Lennon’s Imagine will be followed by other musical acts with an orchestra.

Next Friday, Soulpepper Theatre Company in the historic Distillery District is hosting the classic Charles Dickens story, A Christmas Carol. It tells the classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his visits from three ghosts who teach him the importance of charity in the holiday season.
