The best work of a new generation of media professionals was the star of the show as Humber students presented their work to industry executives at Humber’s Class Acts event on Wednesday.

The event was the result of months of planning by students and faculty from Humber’s Public Relations program and was hosted by the CBC in Toronto.  The exhibit of student work across 10 different programs from the Humber School of Media Studies & Information Technology.

“It’s nice to see a nice mix of programs,” said Sarah Davies, an Advertising and Design student with work on display. “It’s nice to see what everybody else does.”

The event took place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Barbara Frum Atrium at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre building in Toronto.  Within the walls of the media giant’s headquarters, students interacted with colleagues, faculty and  veterans of the industry to celebrate their accomplishments.

“We did not know what to expect, because this has never been done before,” said Cassandra Federbusz, chair of the event and post-grad Public Relations student at Humber. “We had no idea what people were going to bring, so it was a big and nice surprise.”

Ultimately, the goal of the event was to establish Humber’s claim as the top multi-platform storytelling school in North America.

“I think we’re well on our way there. As the years go by, this will definitely place Humber as number one,” said Federbusz.

Though the students and their work were the focus of the event, the students themselves were eager to thank Humber for its student-centric focus.

“I come from a university background, so it’s really great to walk into a program where there’s 20 of you in the classroom and everyone knows each other really well, and the teachers are invested in you and your future,” said Davies. “It’s really nice to feel like you’re not identified by your student number. It’s a really supportive environment.”

The programs featured at Class Acts ranged from Advertising, to Journalism, and even to Game and Web Development.

“It’s awesome. It’s great to meet new people and to showcase how dynamic our web program is,” said Jackie Liu, a Web Development student at Humber.
