What Canadians need to know when trying to cross the border

Canadian border security agents can search your phones and laptops without warrants.

It is unclear when this was put into affect. Individuals denied entry to United States in the past have voiced their outrage.

Recently, a Moroccan-born Canadian mother was denied entrance to the States after her phone was searched.

A video of a prayer alarmed border agents and they sent her packing.

A similar situation took place with a NASA engineer who was asked to unlock his phone.

Many Canadians don’t know what their rights are when crossing the border. Canada Border Services Agency(CBSA) won’t comment, but did send a statement saying personal technology can be subjected to search because they fall under goods in the section 99 of the Customs Act.

CBSA has not shared any information regarding regulations for border agents either.
